Many times when I talk to business owners I get a level of discomfort with the concept of hiring workers overseas. This ranges from slight uneasiness to outright hostility. I understand these feelings well because I used to feel the same way.

When I owned a billing company I did not approve of the idea of sending jobs over seas when there were people right here in my town that needed jobs. I held this view until we had the same entry level position turn over 4 times in one year. At this point my partner told me that we needed to try offshoring the position. I was hesitant until I started to get results. It soon became clear that our employees offshore were more than competent and incredibly disciplined.

As we worked together over the years I got to know my Indian employees and we found ways to connect across the ocean. Once the Director of Operations even flew out to visit us. We discovered that the key to a positive experience was shifting our mindset away from thinking locally and towards thinking about how qualified and dedicated our employees were, no matter where they lived.

In a world that is rapidly changing and becoming more globalized than ever it is important to keep in mind that we all have the same goals. No matter where in the world an employee is, if we are all working to build the best company possible then we are on the road to success.
